Filipina Actress Angel Locsin
Angel Locsin (her real name is Angelica Colmenares) was born on April 23, 1985. She is a television and film actress, commercial model, film producer, and fashion designer in the Philippines. Though largely unknown outside of her native Philippines, Angel has forged an impressive career since making her professional debut less than a decade ago. A sex symbol, a popular actress and a well-known television personality, Angel Locsin has virtually conquered the Philippines’ entertainment scene.
Though her parents split up when she was 14, much of her adolescence was spent in the care of both her mother and father. Her entry into the entertainment industry was fortuitous, as she was spotted by a talent scout while skipping school and hanging out at a nearby mall. Following a series of auditions for local commercials and advertisements, Angel Locsin was offered a contract with GMA Network (one of the biggest television networks in the Philippines) and she soon made her debut on a teen program, Click.
For certain reasons, she signed an exclusive contract with rival network ABS-CBN despite her booming career on the first. Her first project under ABS-CBN was the television series Lobo.
Her up-and-coming fame and increased notoriety led to several movie and TV roles, including 2000’s Ping Lacson, Supercop, 2004’s Singles and 2005’s Let the Love Begin. Angel Locsin has never been afraid of controversy, as evidenced by her brief stint as a pitchwoman for Axe deodorant. In this role, she was featured in a risqué commercial which was eventually pulled after viewers complained about its content. Angel Locsin has also starred in the romantic film The Promise alongside Richard Gutierrez, and she stepped into the shoes of well-known Philippine comic-book heroine Darna in the film adaptation Darna: The Movie.
She may not be that popular in North America (yet), but Angel Locsin is a bona fide star in her native Philippines. She was cast as one of the leads in the fantasy TV show Mulawin in 2004. She also appeared in the movies The Promise (2007), Angels (2007) and I Knew I Loved You (2008).
Angel Locsin had received already several awards such as FHM Philippines as the sexiest woman in the Philippines. In 2005, Locsin was awarded in the FAMAS Awards for “Miss FAMAS Popularity” and she received the “German Moreno Youth Award”. She also hailed as the Princess of Philippine Movies and Television for 2005 by the Box Office Entertainment Awards. In 2006 and 2007, Locsin ranked second in the FHM sexiest women list. In 2007, Locsin awarded in the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards for Favorite Actress category. She also received an Award from Supreme to the Extreme Awards for her Folded & Hung Billboard for the Road Distraction Award. In the 24th Star Awards for Television, Locsin was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress for her portrayal in Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, entitled, Pilat, she was also nominated for Best Actress in her first teleserye in ABS-CBN, Lobo where many observed her improvements in acting.
