Filipina Actress Kim Chiu
Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu or known as Kim Chiu, (born April 19, 1990) is the first Teen Big Winner of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition. She also became an actress, singer, and model. Chiu is a half Filipino-Chinese which was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province, People’s Republic of China, but immigrated together with her family in Cebu at the age of 3.
On April 23, 2006, Chiu got her first TV appearance when she joined the Pinoy Big Brother together with the rest of the housemates. After 42 days of spending summer in the Big Brother house, Kim was named the Teen Big Winner with 626,562 votes or 41.4% of the total votes at the Aliw Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Pasay City on June 3, 2006. She received the prizes of 1 million pesos (US$190,000), a condominium unit, a 4-year college scholarship courtesy of AMA Computer University, and among other prizes worth 3 million pesos (US$570,000).
Chiu sang a Chinese song called Peng You by Emil Chau in Big Brother’s house which means friend. Her popularity with viewers and an interest in show business led to acting assignments with fellow housemate Gerald Anderson. Kim and Gerald have appeared together in several shows on the ABS_CBN network, bagged several commercial endorsements, and appeared in their first movie, First Day High. They also appeared in TV shows such as Love Spell and Aalog-alog. Their love team was named “Kimerald” by the fans, which is a portmanteau of their names.
Kim is one of the new endorsers of Bench, a local clothing line. She was paired with Gerald in print ads with a caption, “Perfect Pair”, advertising the denim collection of Bench. The pair then stared in an ABS-CBN television program Love Spell.She is also currently a regular performer on ASAP ’09. She is the leading lady in the prime time show My Girl, the Filipino remake of the Korean series with the same title. Kim is currently starred in the TV series entitled Tayong Dalawa along with loveteam partner and rumoured boyfriend, Gerald Anderson.
