2011 Sinulog Festival is A Big Success despite of Heavy Rains
Despite of heavy rains sprinkle all over the skies, it did not stop the Cebuanos celebrating their annual Sinulog Festival for 2011. There were still many people who joined the celebration including the Philippine President and some TV personalities.
The 2011 Sinulog is surely one of the most successful festivals in the Philippines for this year. The festival highlighted the President who dressed his signature yellow polo shirt and denim pants as he was welcomed by the local officials with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Cebu City Vice-Mayor Joy Augustus Young, and Cebu First and Second Districts Representatives Rachel Del Mar and Tomas Osmena.
In his speech, the President said he is happy to join Cebuanos in celebrating one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines.
Sinulog is a religious dance ritual in honor of the miraculous image of the Santo Nino. The dance moves to the sound of the drums that resembles the current festival of what was then known as Cebu’s Pahina River.
Many contingents from different places joined the 2011 Sinulog. For this year, there were a total of 18 Sinulog-based group, and 31 Free Interpretation contingents. It also has 11 out of town participants.
