At early of the game, the Azkals started so strong and even stunned Kuwait with a spectacular first-half lone goal by midfielder Stephan Schrock, but again suffered second-half defensive breakdowns to allow the visitors to squeak by with a 2-1 victory. With their win, the Kuwait advanced to the third round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on a 5-1 aggregate while eliminating the Philippines.
Even if we put and say Azkals won that game, they still need to score at least 4-0 against Kuwait for them to advance in the third qualifying round. But their loss could not affect the all out support of the millions of Filipino fans which started to love this sport. We encourage our national football team by not losing hope and instead continue trying their best to achieve every Filipino’s dream to play in the FIFA World Cup someday.
There is nothing to be ashamed for the Philippine Azkals, they really showed their heart and played very hard to give the fans a great game. Despite of their heart-breaking loss, the crowd still gave the home team a standing ovation chanting “Azkals, Azkals, Azkals,” a shirtless and brawny young Etheridge reminding the crowd that this team can only get better.
