Is it a dangerous fight for Manny against Oscar?
Many speculations have been talking about the most anticipated boxing match of the year between the new p4p king Manny Pacquiao and the ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya. Some people said it is a walk-a-way fight for Oscar because of its size and height advantage. They believed that the age difference between the two fighters isn’t really a big factor on beating the six-time world division champion. The 35-year-old De La Hoya, the undisputed box-office king usually fought at light middleweight and it will be a huge advantage for him to secure a victory against the Pacman.
In fact, the Philippine Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain expressed his concern like several boxing aficionados about the disparity in size, height, reach and weight between Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya. Congressman Rufus Rodriguez also had requested the WBC to call off of what they called “The Dream Match” and even wanted to cancel Pacquiao’s license so that he “will have a legitimate reason to walk away.” In contrast of what they said, the WBC founding secretary general and one of Pacquiao’s close friend Rudy Salud only just smiled and very confident that Pacquiao has enough skills to beat De La Hoya. At the same time Salud assailed the suggestion to cancel Pacquiao’s license saying “it cannot be done unilaterally” by the GAB without a proper hearing. Salud also pointed out that once Pacquiao agreed to fight in Las Vegas, his license falls under the aegis of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He added, “no one can ever stop the fight and it must go on”.
Although it’s a fight that every boxing fan want to see, one must also consider the risk involved on this upcoming fight between Manny and Oscar. It could be a dangerous fight for Manny but a lot will depend on his performance during fight night. We will just pray that neither fighter will seriously get injured after the fight. Everybody knows that Manny has a heart of a champion and never back down on his every single fight and so as Oscar. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain against De La Hoya. Millions of Filipinos are praying for his safety and victory on his blockbuster 12-round duel at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 6.
