Nonito Donaire Jr. Gets Angry for Disrespecting his Family
IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire gets angry to his critics for intruding into his personal life and “disrespecting” his family. The champ is visibly upset over a series of accusations that his wife, the former Rachel Marcial, a Taekwondo star, had created a rift between him and his father/trainer Nonito Donaire Sr and that she was disliked both by his promoter Top Rank and his manager Cameron Dunkin.
In a report stated by Philboxing.com that the world flyweight champion lashed out particularly at those who have accused his wife of allegedly driving a wedge between him and his father. Donaire said “Enough is enough. Leave my wife alone. You have disrespected my family, my career and myself. I am disappointed that not one of you who are my so-called friends and have utilized my social status for certain favors have yet to consider my feelings on the effect that these articles have on my family.”
Donaire also said he refuses to confirm or deny any of the allegations stating that “our team, our family matters are deeper than what has been stated and has a long history, even before Rachel came along.”
He also noted that his manager Cameron Dunkin has been a great help to his team since the beginning. They have had to resolve family and team matters before he met Rachel, and Cameron has helped resolve them ever since he became part of the team. Almost every boxer goes through rifts within their camp and Nonito was disappointed how the media have blown this out of proportion. The first knowledge of any problems in camp was through the barrage of articles he read online.
Nonito said, “I respect my father more than any of these writers try to imply that they respect my family by putting out those damaging articles. Blood is thicker than water and my dad will always be my dad. We can resolve anything amongst ourselves since we have a direct line to each other and my dad can always call me if there was a problem. If those who intended to help meant to help by publishing our personal problems and taking advantage of people’s emotions for the sake of getting people to read their articles for the whole world to see then I hope you can realize that it has done nothing but the opposite. Contacting me personally about my personal problems would have been so much easier and appreciated. I have always been open to the media by phone or even through email for interviews if they really want to get a hold of me.”
In a final note Donaire said that his wife’s standing with Top Rank has received nothing but praise “relating to the communication and organization she took part in.” He said any reporter was free to call Top Rank or Dunkin to verify his statements.
