Filipinos Celebrate the 28th Death Anniversary of Ninoy Aquino on Aug. 21
The entire Filipino nation celebrates the 28th death anniversary of former Sen. Benigno”Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on Aug. 21, 2011. There were different activities held in different parts of the country participated by different sectors of Philippine society to pay tribute to the man who “set aside his own personal comfort, his interest and even his life to achieve greater good for the whole country”.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda has issued a statement on the eve of the 28th anniversary of Aquino’s homecoming and death at the airport that now bears his name.
“May the Filipino people never forget him and the many others who fought for the restoration of our democracy”.
“(May) future generations continue to hold dear the example Ninoy Aquino set for us through his life, his struggles and his sacrifice,” he added.
Ninoy, father of the current Philippine President was shot to death allegedly by a gun man at the tarmac of the then Manila International Airport (MIA) in Pasay City drove everyone at the edge of their seats on that fateful Sunday of August 21, 1983.
His tragic death triggered the Filipinos to cry for democracy that ended with the People Power I and gave way for his wife Corazon “Cory” Aquino to run for presidency which ended the Marcos Regime.
