The much-awaited fight between Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. and Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion that billed as “Pinoy Power 2” will set to clash each other on August, 15, 2009 at the New Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. The fight is on a Pay-Per-View which promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank beginning at 6 p.m. PDT, with a suggested retail price of $34.95.
During today’s weigh-in, “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire Jr., of the Philippines weighs in at 115 lb while his opponent Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion of Panama came in over weight at 119.5 lb. NBA Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant is here again in the Philippines, which is a part of his six-city Asian tour for Nike that would bring him to Singapore, Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Chengdu afterwards. This would be his third visit since the NBA 2009 MVP last came here in Manila.

With only less than five weeks of preparation with the most anticipated fight of the year between the current pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton, Manny is looking very sharp in his preparations leading up to the fight.

LAS VEGAS–Mexican Heriberto Ruiz took a unanimous decision win over Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista seconds ago in their 8-round bout here at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Ruiz knocked down Bautista in the third with a left hook, and Bautista was deducted a point in the seventh due to low blows, earning for the Mexican a 77-73, 78-72, 80-70 win. Bautista falls to 26-2 while Ruiz who improves his record to 40-7-2.

During a conference call happened yesterday, Oscar De La Hoya talked about the need to win by knockout, claiming it would be a disaster if he didn’t. In light of those comments, Freddie Roach today had some things to say to his former student.
“Tell Oscar not to worry, the fight will end in a knockout,” Roach said through ace publicist Fred Sternburg yesterday from the Wild Card Boxing Club, the hotbed of Southern California fisticuffs.
