She is a daughter of Delfin Geronimo (a retired PLDT employer) and Divina, who used to run a beauty parlor in their native town. Sarah is the third of four children with siblings Jonnah Rizzie, Sunshine Grace, and Ezekiel Gabriel.

Her father is the one taught her how to sing. In fact, Sarah’s first music lessons came from him. He would have her practice everyday to develop her singing ability. At the young age of 2, Sarah first sang “Pasko Na Naman” on stage with Pinky Marquez and Richard Reynoso.

At four years old, mother Divine would accompany her to auditions for different TV programs. Then, Sarah became part of a children’s show, Pen-pen de Sarapen, from 1992 through 1994, Ang TV from 1995 through 1996, and NEXT from 1996 through 1997. She was also one of the performers during Pope John Paul II visited Manila in 1995.

Sarah’s shining moments came when she entered Star For a Night hosted by Ms. Regine Velasquez was arguably the singing contest that catapulted her to stardom. She came out as the grand prize winner of the said singing competition with her rendition of the song “To Love You More.” where she won P1 million and a managerial contract at Viva Artist Agency.

After this turning point what followed are albums, concerts, her own soap opera, a mainstay at ASAP (a Sunday variety show), supporting roles in movies, endorsements, and legions of fans. She became a popstar, a teen princess, a role model. At ASAP, champion singers show off their winning form at Champions Showdown where she paved way to other singing champions with the likes of Mark Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Raymond Manalo, Erik Santos, Sheryn Regis, Christian Bautista, Frenchie Dy, and Jerome Sala.

The Filipinos love to hear this song while doing the so-called “clap-clap-point” dance step. A big hit in Korea since early 2008, the Wonder Girls has crossed over to Manila in such a big way that even the world-famous Cebu inmates have a video which show the boys dancing to the song.

The group originally composed of five members such as Sun Ye (Sun), Sun Mi (Mimi), Sohee, Ye Eun (Yenny), and Yubin. Ex-member Hyuna was removed from the group by her parents due to their concern over her health in particular, chronic gastroenteritis. The Wonder Girls was produced by singer-songwriter Park Jin-Young and are signed to his talent agency, JYP entertainment.

On February 28, 2009, the group had their first international tour in Bangkok, Tailand. Then, they together with mentor JYP held concerts in the United States visiting several states such as Los Angeles, La Mirada, and New York City. The Wonder Girls joined the concert of Jonas Brothers on the North American leg of the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009. Due to demands, the group also released an English version of their single “Nobody”. The girls’ US debut album is up for release next year.

The Wonder Girls has already released a mini-album (“The Wonder Begins”), three full-length albums (“The Wonder Years”, “So Hot” and “The Wonder Years Trilogy”) and they have earned two Daesangs (their equivalent to the Grammy’s). They have three consecutive Number Ones under their belts: “Tell Me”, “So Hot” and “Nobody”.

Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco is a Filipina singer which was born on May 10, 1992 in her hometown of San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines. At the young age of four, she already started singing and developed her voice after Charice parents broke-up. Her mother Raquel left Charice’s father after a domestic disturbance. Raquel worked very hard in a factory just to support Charice and her little brother, Carl, but always found time to help Charice prepare for the more than eighty local singing contests she entered over the years, which began at age of seven.

Charice first break came when she participated on Little Big Star, a talent show loosely patterned after American Idol that premiered on Filipino television on Saturday, September 24, 2005. As unexpected, she was eliminated in the first round. Resigned to her early exit, she was given a chance to be invited back as a “wild card” contestant a few months later. Charice made the most of her second chance, placing first in every subsequent round. In the Grand Finals, she finished third, largely due to her low total of text votes.

After experiencing downfall, Charice was discouraged in her singing career and instead of it; she planned to become a nurse. Incidentally, a nursing student with the online name FalseVoice stepped in and resurrected her career. He uploaded Charice performances on Little Big Star in YouTube and suddenly received millions of hits and made Charice an Internet sensation.

After viewing FalseVoice’s videos, the producers of Star King, a South Korean talent show, invited her to their stage. On October 13, 2007, Charice emerged from the wings and blew the gates off with her first note, instantly establishing the richness and maturity of her voice. Charice first appearance in Oprah and a concert with Celine Dion considered being the biggest break on her singing career.

They have firstly met in college at the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Kamikazee’s early gigs were mostly campus events in UP Diliman like the annual UP Fair. Before they were signed, they went by the name “Kamikazee Cornflakes” in 2000, which was eventually shortened to its current state as “Kamikazee” was easier to remember. Their early shows included renditions of the songs “Tsinelas”, a cover of Ariel Rivera’s “Sana Kahit Minsan”, and Britney Spears’ Lucky.

In 2003 is proved to be the year of reckoning for Kamikazee as they also picked up the Listener’s Choice Award at the 2003 NU 107 Rock Awards function, while Allan Burdeos won the Drummer of the Year trophy. Two years since, they were names as the year’s Best Live Act at 2005 NU 107 Rock Awards. They also gave an electrifying performance of the hit song ‘Chicksilog’ that was nominated as the Song of the Year. The song reach the #1 position at NU 107’s Midnight Countdown and ended at the #9 position of the Yearend Countdown for 2005.

The band’s name speaks volumes of the band’s philosophy – pure passion and fearless music. The music they make will leave you exhausted, exhilarated and yearning for more…and Kamikazee is fast gaining the reputation as being one of the most explosive bands in the Filipino music arena. Their band influences are Parokya ni Edgar, Cheese, The Eraserheads, Deftones, New Found Glory, Slipknot, and Pantera.

Bamboo Mañalac serves as the band’s front man. Bamboo’s story takes a microscopic view of the local music scene. It all starts with a dream. Taking inspiration from all the demigods that sang to them from their crabby speakers, spewing wisdom and good vibes out of worn out cassettes long before an apple gave birth to a pod, they pick up an instrument, string up some riffs, weave some melodies, sing a few songs. Before they knew it, they had sold their soul to the music, and the mistress exacts a high price.

The Bamboo band composes of Bamboo Mañalac (lead vocal), Ira Cruz, (guitarist), Nathan Azarcon (bass), and Vic Mercado (drums). Contrary to popular belief, the band is not named after him. According to Ira Cruz, the guitarist, the word bamboo relates to strength and durability with an island feel to it. Also, it’s very Filipino and Asian at the same time. Their first priority for a band name during 2000s was “Audio Barangay” which means “Audio Neighborhood” in English. However, they realized that it’s a bit hard to pronounce and it is not that catchy compared to just “Bamboo.” They also dropped the name “Audio Barangay” because Audioslave was formed roughly the same time during their band’s formation, to avoid confusion.

Powered by the strength of the carrier single, “Noy-pi,” the band’s debut As the Music Plays, released in February 2004 success; it later spawned other hit singles in the power chord-driven “Mr. Clay,” the slow-burning “Masaya,” and the radio single-only, groove-infested “These Days.” By December of the same year, they had released a repackaged AVCD version that included their music videos and a bonus cut—the re-recorded version of “Masaya” featuring Ria Osorio on piano. They had also won a slew of music awards, not the least of which were MTV Pilipinas’ Best New Artist and Song of the Year for “Noy-pi” punctuated, of course, by their performance at the awards show.

Their second album, Light Peace Love, which was released in 2005, consisted of ten songs of differing moods and subjects, which took only 3 months to record. This album has a softer sound with both its lyrics and delivery. For this album they added more strings and variety of other instruments, including a trumpet. The band experimented with several new styles that may please new listeners, at the risk of disappointing fans of the more conventional rock of their first album.

Their third album, We Stand Alone Together, was released in 2007. It contains revived local songs such as Buklod’s “Tatsulok” and international songs such as Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” from different generations. It also includes bonus tracks like unplugged versions of their hit songs from previous albums such as “Mr. Clay”, “These Days”, and “Hallelujah”. Once again, opting to do away with the conventional rock image that was attached to them; they produced sounds which were more jazzy than expected.

BisRock has invaded not only in Cebu but also recently known in most places of the Philippines. It has pushed the Cebu music scene into greater heights. The term “BisRock” comes from the Cebuano words Bisaya, referring the Visayan language, and rock, for rock music. It was originally was coined by Cebuano writer Januar E. Yap in 2002, and and was first applied to Missing Filemon’s first album. He has a collection of short stories published under the New Writers series of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. He also writes a column for Sun.Star Cebu and teaches literature courses at St. Theresa’s College and Cebu Normal University.

Earning wide reception among the young in the Visayas and Mindanao, Bisrock is a recent cultural phenomenon. This is however, highly debatable, as Visayans, primarily Cebuanos, are the only ones actually making a big fuss out of this so-called musical “genre”.

Bisrock actually started around the 1980′s when someone started calling Cebu’s rock scene as Bisrock, but it wasn’t popular right away; the packaging wasn’t right just yet. The current scene or influence at that time was that of new wave, punk, thrash metal, and British Rock Bands, hence nobody cared to call it Bisrock and when someone did, he was ridiculed as too Bisaya; and the composition of the lyrics was not in Cebuano but in English.

The Cebu Pop materials simply alienated the youth, its songs were stuck in the age of melodrama. On the other hand, Pinoy rock, dominated by the Tagalog, was in full swing, reliving the seventies with E-Heads, Siakol, Parokya, etc. The young Cebuano musician saw that, and saw “bisrock” as a natural direction. And, of course, the love and familiarity of the language has always been there. That is a big, indelible factor. It is the language in which they can be funny, sarcastic, romantic, cynical, angry, without being pretentious with the lyrics. It was the language closest to their hearts.

The band Point 11 is an emo-punk band playing traditional and newly composed material. Rhythmic and melodic, the band’s sound mixes both foreign and local influences. The band was formed last November 11, 2006 which consists of five members: Mike Quiachon (vocalist), Marcellano Alday (lead guitarist), Marc Anthony Nengasca (rhythm guitarist), Cancio Adlawan (bass guitarist), and Joemart Jorge (drummer). They all came from Talisay City, Cebu particularly in areas of Linao and Day-as.

Throughout the years, the members showed their true devotion and love of our native culture and traditions which they finally decided to focus more on BISROCK songs by making compositions of their own. Having spent most of their time performing in cafes, bars, town fiestas, malls, and other special events encouraged them to develop more of their skills and talents especially in the world of music. They have already several compositions but only five songs were recorded as of the moment. It includes BASO, DON’T JUDGE (AYAW KO HUKMI), TOKABAGZ, AMBISYOSA, GIPAKABILILHON. Their solo single which entitled “TOKABAGZ” had already played in fm stations more specifically in 93.1 Smash Fm. Hopefully, the band is trying their best to launch their first album within this year. The KABANHAWAN FIESTIVAL in Minglanilla and became a front-act band on one of the Bamboo’s concert considered them the most meaningful gigs throughout their career. Recently, the band is performing regularly in HIDEOUT CAFÉ and OUTPOST BAR in Lahug. They were also the grand prize winner of the 2008 MUZIKLABAN which held in Minglanilla, Cebu. They are very thankful to those people who show their full support and most of all to God which truly inspire them.
